Why online works

A screen sounds like a compromise. Done properly, it isn't.

The reasonable worry about online tutoring for a seven-year-old is that it becomes a video call the child watches. That version does fail, and it should.

Our sessions are built the opposite way. Your child writes on a shared digital whiteboard, marks up documents alongside the educator, plays quick skill games, and takes turns constantly. Segments are shorter and the pace is faster than an in-person session, deliberately, because that is what holds elementary attention on a screen.

What the format adds is significant: no commute for anyone, sessions that can continue through travel and weather, and access to tutoring regardless of where a family lives. For some easily distracted students, a structured screen can be more focusing than a room full of interesting objects.

We look for the cause, not the complaint

"Bad at reading" describes four different problems with four different fixes. The first session is spent working out which one you actually have.

Behind, on track, or ahead

Students come to us catching up, holding steady through a hard stretch, or needing depth a grade-level classroom cannot supply. All three are normal reasons to be here.

Progress you can point at

Not "reading is going better" but "she decodes vowel teams accurately now." Vague reassurance is not evidence, and we do not offer it in place of the real thing.

We will tell you when to stop

If the gap closes, we say so. If tutoring is the wrong tool for your child, we say that too — before you have spent months finding out.

Peak Online Learning was founded by Andreea Schwimmer, M.A., our Founder & Lead Educator — a credentialed California elementary teacher with an M.A. in Education from Pepperdine University and more than 13 years in elementary education.

Those classroom years covered standards-based teaching for mixed-ability groups, intervention for students who had fallen behind, enrichment for gifted and talented learners, and several years in special education — including an extended period of fully individualized one-on-one instruction with a student with special needs.

That background shapes the approach our educators follow: understand the student's starting point first, work on the specific skills that need attention, and keep adjusting as they progress.

Is online tutoring effective for elementary students?

Online tutoring can be highly effective for many elementary students when sessions are interactive, individualized and designed for the child's age and attention needs. The deciding factor is usually not the screen but whether the session genuinely involves the student. Ours are built around a shared whiteboard the student writes on, frequent turn-taking and short segments. For TK and kindergarten students it varies more by child, and we will give you an honest view of how your child is finding it.

What grades does Peak Online Learning tutor?

Transitional kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade. Those are the years our Founder & Lead Educator taught professionally for more than 13 years, and the years where targeted support tends to make the largest long-term difference.

Where is online tutoring available?

Throughout the United States. Sessions are scheduled in your family's time zone. In-person tutoring is available only in the South Bay of Los Angeles, through our sister practice.

No. Students come to us for three broad reasons: catching up after a gap, staying on track through a difficult stretch, and enrichment for advanced learners who want more challenge than a grade-level classroom provides. Designing enrichment for gifted and talented learners has long been part of our Founder & Lead Educator's professional work.
